Jan Mathiesen has a broad background in executive leadership, general management, operations, engineering, sales and marketing, and strategic planning. He has experience across a diverse range of high technology markets, including aerospace, electronics, computer, networking, and process/control industries. He has excelled at developing talent and leading high performance teams in a wide spectrum of business settings, from public companies to private equity acquisitions and exits.
Mr. Mathiesen became CEO of Atrenne Integrated Solutions in June 2014, working for a premier private equity firm, RFE Investment Partners. Atrenne was created by merging four high technology businesses to create a complete electronic system provider specializing in electronics, interconnect, and enclosure solutions for mission-critical and performance-critical applications. After completing two bolt-on acquisitions in 2014 and 2015, AIS offered Customers a unique combination of in-depth mechanical, electrical, and system integration knowledge, allowing them to deliver electromechanical solutions which survived the most demanding environments. By focusing on delivering complex systems to Military and Commercial Aerospace Customers, Atrenne growth accelerated. In April of 2018, Atrenne was sold to Celestica, delivering greater than 2X cash on cash return for ownership.
Prior to this role, Mr. Mathiesen was Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for UTC Aerospace Systems, Sensors and Integrated Systems, a $1.6B business. In this position, Jan focused on developing and deploying the SIS Strategic Plan, ensuring that growth objectives were met, and competitive positions were strengthened. He placed particular emphasis on bottom-line contribution via aggressive introduction of new products, development of Key Customer Relationships, and expansion of product lines into new markets and applications. He also focused on increasing cost competitiveness via rigorous application of Lean and Six Sigma Tools and Processes, both in the factory and office.
Past roles include Vice President of the Commercial Transport and Regional/Business Aircraft Business Units at Goodrich Sensor Systems, where he had full P&L responsibility for more than half of the Sensor Systems business, with responsibilities including Sales and Marketing, Contracts, Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Quality and also had responsibility for two division wide functions, Engineering Services, and the FAA Repair Service Center. Also within Goodrich, he was Vice President of Operations and held numerous Business Development roles (Marketing Engineer to Product Marketing Manager) for the Sensor Systems business.
Before joining Goodrich, Mr. Mathiesen was Vice President with I-TECH Corp., a manufacturer of high-end Fibre Channel and SCSI Test Equipment for the Data Storage, Networking, and Communication markets and previously held Engineering positions with General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas, and Republic Airlines in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Mr. Mathiesen holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Technology.
